Reaching the museum from Mitaka Station

The museum stands inside the western section of Inokashira Onshi Park. From the south exit of JR Mitaka Station it is about a 15-minute stroll along the Tamagawa Josui canal, where signs point the way. The community bus (the Mitaka City Bus) from the same exit takes about 5 minutes, and some buses on the route were designed by Studio Ghibli. From Shinjuku, a rapid train on the JR Chuo Line reaches Mitaka in about 20 minutes.

Walking from Kichijoji Station takes roughly 15 minutes as well. The museum has no parking lot and asks visitors not to come by car, though it provides roughly 100 bicycle spaces.

Tickets, hours and entry times

Entry is by date and time reservation only, and tickets are not sold at the museum's own window. Each month's tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on the 10th of the previous month. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with seven entry times from 10:00 to 16:00, and visitors should enter within one hour of the time on the ticket. It is closed every Tuesday, with other closures varying by year, so check the museum's calendar before you go.

Admission is about 1,000 yen for adults and university students, about 700 yen for junior high and high school students, about 400 yen for elementary school students, and about 100 yen for children aged 4 and up. Children under 4 are free.

House rules to know in advance

Photos and video are not allowed inside the museum, and food and drink may not be consumed inside the exhibition areas; items from the cafe can be eaten in the cafe or on its deck. Re-entry is not possible, and the short film in the screening room can be watched only once per visitor. Free coin lockers are provided, with 96 units available, and the roof may close in bad weather.
