This policy explains what information AnimeTrails ("we") handles when you use this website.

No accounts

You do not need an account to use this site, and we do not collect your name or contact details while you browse. We set no cookies of our own. Google AdSense, described below, sets cookies of its own.

The site itself keeps two small settings in your browser's local storage, on your device only: whether you have already seen the opening animation, and which colour theme a preview link asked for. They are never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes them.

How we count visits

We run our own analytics — Umami, open-source software installed on our own server at stats.animetrails.com. Nothing from this analytics tool is sent to Google Analytics or any other advertising company, and the figures are not shared or sold.

It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. For each page view it records the page address, the site that linked you here, your browser and operating system, screen size, language, and an approximate location (country, region and city) worked out from your IP address, and whether you clicked one of our partner links. Your IP address itself is never stored: it is combined with a secret value and turned into a one-way code. That secret changes monthly, so the code cannot be traced back to you, but within a month the same device produces the same code. We treat that code as pseudonymous data rather than anonymous data. We do not combine it with anything else, and we never sell or share the figures. The site may also show ads served by Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve and measure ads, under its own privacy policy; you can manage ad personalisation at google.com/settings/ads. Those ad cookies are separate from the figures described here. Records are kept only as long as they are useful for understanding how the site is used. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal, nothing is recorded at all — that is the simplest way to opt out, and most browsers and ad blockers can also block stats.animetrails.com outright. If you are in the EU, the UK or California and want your records removed, email us and we will delete them.

Choices such as the map color theme are kept only in the open page and are not stored. Like any website, our hosting provider and the map tile provider receive standard technical data (such as your IP address and browser type) when your browser requests pages and map images, and may keep it in server logs for security and operation.

Affiliate links and third-party cookies

Some links are partner links and are marked "Partner link" where they appear. When you click one, the partner (or its affiliate network) may set cookies in your browser to record that you came from AnimeTrails, so that we receive a commission if you book. Links that are not marked that way, including plain hotel search links, earn us nothing. Those cookies are set and controlled by the partner, under the partner's own privacy policy. We do not receive your name, payment details or booking details — only aggregate reports of clicks and commissions. You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site. Google and its partners may set cookies and use device identifiers to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and to measure how ads perform. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you will see a consent banner before any personalised ad is shown, and you can decline or change your choice at any time. You can also opt out of personalised advertising generally at adssettings.google.com or optout.aboutads.info. We do not control how Google or its advertising partners use this data; see Google's own policy on data used by partner sites.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to fix the issue you raised. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not sell or share it, except where required by law. We delete messages once they are no longer needed.

How these pages are written

Routes and place pages on this site are drafted with the help of AI, from facts taken only from official tourism, municipal and operator pages, which are listed under Sources on every page. Every draft is checked automatically against those sources before it is published — figures that are not in a source are removed — and a person reviews the site and can take any page down. We never write first-hand reviews or claim to have visited a place. Times, fares and opening hours change, so please confirm them on the official page before you travel.

Children

This site is a general travel guide and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
