A shrine on Mizuki Shigeru Road where visitors draw a yokai fortune slip. The road's own guide says the object enshrined here is a black granite stone that the creator, Shigeru Mizuki, consecrated himself, and calls the shrine a popular power spot.

The road around the shrine
Mizuki Shigeru Road opened in 1993 and runs about 800 meters from Sakaiminato Station to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum. The road's own site says 178 bronze yokai statues line both sides, in a street that keeps a retro Showa-era look. After sunset, shadow-art lights are projected along the road and the statues are lit up. The lighting is on every evening from sunset until 10 p.m.
The road's list of sights also includes Kappa no Izumi, a spring with a 3-meter tower, tree stumps and a hut where nine yokai relax. Tottori Prefecture's English guide also mentions a Yokai Post, where mail gets the yokai postmark.
Ways to explore the road
The Sakaiminato Tourism Office, inside the Minatosakai Koryukan building next to the station, rents bicycles and hands out guides and pamphlets. Visitors can collect yokai stamps at facilities along the road and trade them for gifts at the office. According to the prefecture's guide, each statue carries a bar code that a phone can scan for more details on that character.
The Mizuki Shigeru Museum at the far end of the road is about 10 minutes on foot from JR Sakaiminato Station, according to the museum. Its admission is about 1,000 yen for adults, and children under school age enter free. Check the museum's page before you go.
