JR Sakaiminato Station
Sakaiminato, Tottori
The last stop on the JR Sakai Line, and the western end of Mizuki Shigeru Road. The square in front is the start of the walk: the road runs about 800 m from here to the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Museum. The JR timetable marks the trains that are painted with illustrations, so you can plan a ride on one.
Mizuki Shigeru Road and Kappa Spring
Sakaiminato, Tottori
A shopping street of about 800 m, opened in 1993, that runs from Sakaiminato Station to the museum in the hometown of the creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro. It is lined with more than 170 bronze yokai statues, all lit from sunset to 10 p.m., when shadow-puppet yokai are also projected onto the pavement. Kappa Spring, a small plaza with a tower and nine yokai statues, is one of the resting spots along the way.
Yokai Shrine
Sakaiminato, Tottori
A small shrine on Mizuki Shigeru Road where visitors draw a yokai fortune slip. The road's own guide says the object enshrined here is a black granite stone that the creator, Shigeru Mizuki, consecrated himself, and calls the shrine a popular power spot.
Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Museum
Sakaiminato, Tottori
The museum at the far end of Mizuki Shigeru Road, reopened on April 20, 2024 after a renovation. It shows original artwork and material about the creator's life, and has a library of his manga. About 10 min on foot from the station. Open 9:30-17:00 (last entry 16:30) all year, about ¥1,000 for adults.
