An old shrine on a hill above the sea whose torii on the rocks, Kamiiso no Torii, is the symbol of Oarai. The shrine displays a large Girls und Panzer ema (votive picture board) inside its Zuishin-mon gate, viewable during gate hours. The rocks under the torii are sacred ground where visitors may not walk.

Hours and getting there
The shrine gate is open from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from May to August, and from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from September to April. Goshuin, handwritten temple and shrine stamps, are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. From Oarai Station it is about 40 minutes on foot (roughly 3 km) or about 15 minutes by bus to the Oarai Isosaki-jinja-shita stop. The parking lot is open from sunrise to 7 p.m., with no overnight parking.
Origins and the sacred rocks
The shrine says its deities descended onto the rocks in 856, and those rocks are called Kamiiso. On New Year's Day, priests go down to the shore for a sunrise ceremony. Photographers gather at dawn year-round, and around the winter solstice the torii and the rising sun can be framed together; the shrine notes that people often mistake this for a sunset. Work on the current main hall, worship hall and Zuishin-mon gate began in 1690 by order of Mito's lord Tokugawa Mitsukuni and was completed in 1730.
