Hida City promotes Furukawa as a model for scenes in the film. The footbridge on the north side of the station is the famous scene, and a train stops on platform 2, as in the film, only once a day, at 9:57. Trains are infrequent, so check the timetable.

Around the station
According to Hida City's tourism site, the waiting room has a panel of Hidakuro, the mascot character that promotes Hida beef. Outside the station building is a bus rotary, and the city lists it as one of the places that recall the film. The tourist information office is right next to the station, and visitors can pick up a walking map there before heading into town.
The city says the footbridge over the tracks lets you watch trains pull in. Trains line up on platforms 1 and 2 in the same position as in the film only once a day, at 9:57, as of August 2026. The city advises timing a visit to that train if you want the shot.
Getting here and parking
Hida-Furukawa Station is about 15 minutes by train from JR Takayama Station, and the city describes the town as compact enough to see on foot from the station. Free parking is offered at the Hida City Hall lot and at a lot behind the station. The city library next to that lot is roughly a 7 minute walk from the station, according to the city's tenth-anniversary route.
The Seto River and its white-walled storehouse street is about 5 minutes on foot from the station. The city says roughly 1,000 carp swim in the river from April to November.
Tenth-anniversary extras
For the film's tenth anniversary the city published a walking route that starts at the city library, where a corner about the film has been set up and old bookmarks have been reprinted. The Furukawa town tourist information office has been handing out a bookmark with original illustrations of the model spots since August 26, 2026, while supplies last.
The same route stops at the Hida Furukawa Sakura Bussankan, a souvenir shop about 8 minutes on foot from the station. The city says visitors can make a braided cord there, an item that appears in the story. The shop lists hours of 10:00 to 16:30 from April to November and is closed on Thursdays, except holidays.
