1Fujiko F. Fujio Museum
Kawasaki, Kanagawa
A city-run museum in Tama Ward, Kawasaki. It displays original drawings, and a grassy play area lets visitors meet the characters. Entry is by advance ticket for a set time.
2Doraemon Sanpomichi and the Doraemon Post, Takaoka Station
Takaoka, Toyama
Fujiko F. Fujio is from Takaoka, and the city put twelve bronze Doraemon characters in the plaza in front of the station, with words from the creator on a board at Doraemon's feet. In front of the station's ticket gates stands a postbox cast in Takaoka copperware: post a letter and it gets an original Doraemon postmark.
3Fujiko F. Fujio Hometown Art Gallery
Takaoka, Toyama
Takaoka City's gallery for its most famous son, on the 2nd floor of the Takaoka Art Museum. It shows original Doraemon artwork, his personal effects and manga he drew during his Takaoka years. Closed on Mondays (the next weekday if Monday is a holiday) and from December 29 to January 3; about ¥500 for adults, and a separate ticket from the art museum's own exhibitions.
4Doraemon's Vacant Lot, Takaoka Otogi no Mori Park
Takaoka, Toyama
A city park where the empty lot from Doraemon is recreated, with the characters standing in it; you can walk in among them, or look down on the scene from the observation tower in the park's Otogi no Mori-kan. The grounds are free and open at any hour, while the indoor buildings run 9:00-17:00 and close on Tuesdays. The city's tourism guide gives about 7 minutes by car from Takaoka Station.
