Enoshima Benten Bridge

Getting to the bridge and what is close by

The Fujisawa City Tourist Association gives roughly 6 minutes on foot from Katase-Enoshima Station on the Odakyu Enoshima Line to the bridge. Other places in the same guide are close to that station as well: the Shin-Enoshima Aquarium is about 3 minutes away and Katase-Nishihama and Kugenuma beach about 5 minutes. The guide says the beach is one of the most popular in the Kanto region, drawing more than one million visitors a year.

After crossing to the island

The Enoshima Benzaiten Nakamise-dori, a historic shopping street lined with inns, restaurants and souvenir shops, leads from the island's entrance toward Enoshima Shrine. The tourist association's guide lists it at roughly 10 minutes on foot from the station and describes shirasu (whitebait) rice bowls as one thing to look for there. A bronze torii gate, first built in 1747 and rebuilt in 1821, stands at the start of the approach road.

The Enoshima Escar, billed as the first outdoor escalator in Japan when it opened in 1959, climbs 46 meters in about 4 minutes toward the top of the island. It runs upward only, so the return trip is by stairs, and its listed hours are 8:50 to 19:05. Check the operator's page before you go.
