A hot-spring town in Kanazawa, published as the model town for Hanasaku Iroha. After the series aired in 2011 the residents staged its invented Bonbori Festival for real, with the cooperation of the production committee and local government; it is held in October, though typhoons have prevented it in some years. Lanterns light the road so the little god of Yuwaku Inari Shrine can set off for Izumo, carrying visitors' handwritten wishes. The 2026 festival and entry limits
The Kanazawa tourism association lists the 14th Yuwaku Bonbori Festival for Saturday, October 17, 2026, in the hot-spring town. Admission is limited on the day. Only guests staying overnight in Yuwaku Onsen, people who made an individual sponsorship donation and holders of a general admission ticket can enter, and the festival's official website carries the details. The festival's own site adds that it was created to mark the third anniversary of recovery from the Asano River flood.
Getting to Yuwaku Onsen
By car, the tourism association gives about 40 minutes from Kanazawa Station and about 30 minutes from the Kanazawa-Higashi or Kanazawa-Morimoto interchanges. By public transit, a Hokutetsu route bus stops at Yuwaku Onsen, and the stop is roughly a 3-minute walk from the town; the festival site lists the Kanazawa Station East Exit, bus stop 6 as the departure point.
The festival organizers state that the town has no parking lot for visitors. On the main festival day, cars without a vehicle permit cannot enter, and they ask visitors not to park without permission in ways that trouble neighbors. Check the organizers' pages before you go.
